How To Iron Egyptian Cotton™
Renowned for feeling gloriously soft against the skin, Egyptian Cotton™ is a wonderful indulgence. Available as clothing, bed linen, towels and more, Egyptian Cotton™ stands out for its elegance, durability and unique softness. It can hold a bright or deep dye brilliantly and be woven into high thread count items. To show off this slice of luxury to the best of your ability, we recommend ironing your Egyptian Cotton™ products.
100% pure Egyptian Cotton™ does not contain polyester or any other synthetic materials. This means that our cotton is far softer and stronger, but it also wrinkles more easily. Fortunately, Egyptian Cotton™ softens with age and continuous use, reducing the strength of the creases. To keep your cotton items looking as smart as possible, simply follow our ironing advice.
Getting Ready To Iron Egyptian Cotton™
Egyptian Cotton™ is easiest to iron when slightly damp. Don’t put your cotton on a long drying cycle and remove it from the tumble dryer as soon as the cycle is done. The longer you leave it in there, the more the creases will set in and the harder they will be to budge. Line-drying is often the best option if you can guarantee the weather. If the cotton is dry when you come to iron it, just give it a light spritzing with some water to dampen it.
Wherever possible, use distilled water in your iron but don’t worry if you can only access tap water. Turn your dial to a high setting or, if there are fabric-specific settings, choose cotton. Don’t be scared to use the steam functionality on any particularly stubborn creases.
Ironing A Shirt
To achieve the sharpest look possible, iron the Egyptian Cotton™ shirt both inside and out. We recommend beginning with the stiffer elements of the shirt, the collar and cuffs. Iron both sides of the collar, moving from the edges to the centre.
Unbuttoning the cuffs will allow you to flatten the sleeves more easily. Work from the cuff up towards the shoulder. Sleeves are generally the most problematic area of a shirt as you can easily crease one side whilst ironing the other. To avoid this, place an old towel or piece of cardboard between the layers.
When ironing the rest of the shirt, be careful to avoid damaging the buttons. Once you’re all done, hang the shirt up with the top couple of buttons fastened to ensure that it holds its shape.
Ironing A Sheet
Ironing bed linen can seem like a daunting task, particularly for double and kingsize beds,. It can be incredibly tempting to just avoid the task altogether but then your Egyptian Cotton™ won’t look its absolute best. All you need to do to lighten the burden is to fold the sheets. The heat should be strong enough to iron multiple layers, especially if it is slightly damp. Fold again when complete.
‘Non-iron’ or ‘wrinkle-resistant’ Egyptian Cotton products are available. These are specially treated to make them easier to iron, whilst keeping them 100% Egyptian Cotton.
